3 Success Tips to Stop Procrastination

Procrastination is possibly the most sneaky habit that stealthily sabotages your best performance and achievement goals.  As a delighted and proud mum, this photo is of my son Andrew with his gorgeous girlfriend Kaleigh.   Andrew was able to defeat procrastination to pick up a first class honours degree with the highest result IET prize.

1. Do what you dislike FIRST.  This is a Success Mastery Skill informed from the latest research studies (2018) – High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard.  Those who were able to sustain long term success, chose to get things completed and out of the way, that they LEAST liked, FIRST.  This is a significant shift to create the mindset of feeling like a winner.  Imagine completing tasks and goals with that associated great feeling of reward and achievement.  You can feel like a winner all day and this change will inspire self-discipline, self-belief, self-respect, self-confidence and self-esteem to improve and impact every area of your life.

2. Is perfectionism driving your procrastination?  Do you painstakingly go over every detail?  Is anything you do really good enough?  For most people, procrastination disappears when they take action.  If perfectionism is the culprit, you may be subconsciously delaying getting started because you are managing the feeling ‘i’m not good enough’.   This core limiting belief, if not addressed, will fuel a hazardous habit of stress with post deadline fatigue.

3.  If a lack of understanding or clarity as to how best to approach a task or project is fuelling your procrastination, better than no action, just take any action and respond to the feedback you receive.

A successful Day

A successful day requires planning and a good night sleep will set you up for your vibrant energy lifestyle.  If you start your day with purpose and clarity, you will feel focused and efficient.  The busier you are, the more you will need to micro-manage your time to maximise efficiency.

1. Write down your tasks the night before and spend the last 20 mins before bedtime doing something calm & enjoyable.
2. Number your tasks in order of priority.  If you have a large task, break it down.
3. Choose three tasks you want to focus on the next day.
4. If distractions occur, factor them into your time plan next time, or consider what you can do to minimise them.
5. Aim for excellence, not perfection.

Make sure you factor in a day off to smell the roses.

Actively search for ways to enjoy moment by moment, because happy feelings increase deeper levels of satisfaction and… a successful day.

3 Quick Tips to Energise your Life

Vibrant Energy Lifestyle

Choose one of your favourite tips to energise your life:

1. Declutter your mind by listing three things you plan to achieve the following day.  Everything else, list under the headings ‘ To Delegate’ or ‘Universe’.

2. Breakthrough procrastination by breaking down large projects into small manageable parts and associating pleasure with anything you don’t want to do.

3. Get very clear about why you want to do something because these are your motivators.  To avoid inner conflict, make sure your desires are aligned with your values and beliefs.  

4.  Only have three tasks on your to-do list to inspire a feeling of ease and look forward to the satisfaction of achievement/accomplishment of finishing and completing these three tasks.

5.  Buy a present for someone (it can be anything little) and really savour the GIVING. Science has proven white blood cells increase when you give – so giving really is receiving with a boosted immune system for YOU too!

6. Take more oxygen into your whole body by breathing deeper into your diaphram instead of shallow breathing into your chest. Oxygen is energy – so BREATH mindfully and deeply. Accompany your breathing with some stretching or other exercise and you will be giving yourself a boost of endorphins that will give you that vibrant energy lifestyle!

7. Go for a ‘mindful’ walk – which means leaving your worries behind.  Each step you take can be mindful, deliberate and free.

8. Release stress by deliberately caring more about your energy and less about perfection.  You can reach for excellence when your energy is lined up with food feelings.  If you are feeling conflicted or overwhelmed, get help with short cut strategies to release stress, fatigue and increase vibrant energy.  In addition, make sure you are eating a selection of fruits, vegetables and superfoods, as well as a few of your favourite treats.
